According to a new report from Overhaul, in 2025, 2,576 cases of cargo theft were recorded in the US, portal GoCDL.us informs.
Two states account for more than half of all statistics:
California — 38% of all thefts (in 2024, it was 32%)
Texas — 20%
Tennessee — 11%
Illinois and Pennsylvania — 7% each,
Georgia — 4%
The main activity is concentrated around Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Dallas, and Houston.
The overall increase is 16% over the year.
- On average in 2025, there were 7.16 thefts per day compared to 6.07 in 2024.
- The fourth quarter turned out to be the most active — 30% of all incidents for the year.
- For 2026, Overhaul predicts an increase of at least 13% — to ~2,910 cases.
What is stolen:
– Electronics — 22%
– Food and beverages — 15%
– Home and garden goods — 11%
How it is stolen:
– Petty theft (pilferage) — 43% of cases
– Deceptive pickup (scammers pose as legitimate carriers or brokers) — increased by 35% and now accounts for 10% of all thefts
Where it is stolen:
– Warehouses and distribution centers — 36%
– Truck stops and gas stations — 17%
