The ROUTE Act bill will allow truck drivers under the age of 21 to cross state borders within a 150-mile radius

Congresswoman Harriet Hageman (Republican from Wyoming) introduced the Responsible Opportunity for Under-21 Trucking Engagement (ROUTE) Act, web portal for CDL drivers GoCDL.us informs.

It aims to expand opportunities for young drivers by allowing them limited interstate transportation within 150 miles of their main job.

The bill removes federal restrictions that currently prohibit drivers with a CDL under the age of 21 from leaving the state. Drivers will be able to cross borders, but must return to the base for 14 consecutive hours and rest for at least 10 hours before the next shift, while maintaining all existing rules about working hours.

The initiative is supported by the Association of Independent Truck Owners and Operators (OOIDA) and the Wyoming Tractor Drivers Association.

Todd Spencer, President of OOIDA, noted that ROUTE Act provides a safe way to gain experience in familiar conditions without risking long-distance transportation.
